Redeemed. Reconciled. Restored.
Making faith and community accessible
Hope Communities is a network of small, slow faith communities in Chicago
We are rooted in the revolutionary welcome and way of Jesus.
We do this through home-based worship gatherings with a dialogue-based teaching where every voice helps shape the understanding and application of the biblical text through surrender to the presence of the Holy Spirit.
We wrestle with embodied faith together, following Christ and honoring the dignity of all life.
Each community is called to see the imago Dei (the image of God) in every person, invite others into the missio Dei (God’s ongoing mission of redemption, reconciliation, and restoration of all things), and join the motus Dei (the movement of God actively transforming and renewing all things).
We believe in building spaces for all, not only to be welcomed, but accepted and needed in the Kingdom of God.
Bring your whole self, and you will be met with love (no asterisks needed).

What We Believe
-
We believe there is one divine being who has existed eternally. God is revealed to in three distinct, equally divine persons - Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit. At the beginning of time, God created the entire universe and all its creatures.
-
We teach that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the Son of the Living God who died for our sins and rose from the dead and is King of all the universe and our lives.
-
We believe the Holy Spirit dwells in every Christ-follower. God’s indwelling presence gives spiritual life to believers and distinguishes them as children of God. The Holy Spirit guides Christ-followers in applying God’s principles, equips Christ-followers with talents and abilities for the purpose of building up God’s kingdom.
-
We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired story of the perfect God, written and recorded by imperfect people, and is the sufficient guide for our faith and living the Christian life (2 Timothy 3:14-16).
-
We teach that every person is created in the image of God (imago Dei) and has intrinsic value and dignity. We believe that because of Jesus’ work of reconciliation on the cross, God did the hard work to re-establish our relationship with God.
-
We teach that Jesus wants the church to engage in deep and wide spiritual formation that engages one’s head, heart, and actions. We pull from the beauty of the thousands-of-years-old faith tradition, not the American sub-culture, or the ugly history of Christendom.
We believe God desires the Church to push beyond the vicious cycle of consumerism and stay engaged in equity and justice and anti-racism.
